As cases of anxiety and depression climbed during the COVID-19 pandemic, so too have cannabis sales. Global cannabis sales in 2020 reached nearly $21.3 billion, an increase of 48% over 2019, according to BDSA, a Colorado-based market research firm with expertise in the legal cannabis market. The trend is expected to continue, with a projected $55.9 billion in sales in the next five years. Cannabidiol (CBD), the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis, has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, including reducing stress and promoting sleep, as well as controlling pain and inflammation. In a meta-analysis published in Innovare Journal of Medical Sciences, Dr. Marcelo Ferro, a lead author and biochemist with Nutrition Formulators, Inc., reported that as many as two thirds of people with anxiety, stress, or depression were able to manage symptoms with CBD. While additional research into CBD’s possible health benefits is ongoing, one California-based lifestyle brand is offering a variety of premium CBD products, without THC. Appealing to consumers young and old, these products have become, for many brand proponents, a way of life. CBD Living: Special Delivery Helmed by CEO and Founder Bill Di Segna, CBD Living was formed in 2013 to build a reputable brand of CBD products backed by the science of cutting-edge nanotechnology, or the manipulation of matter on a near-atomic scale to produce new structures, materials, and devices. The brand’s proprietary water-soluble nanotechnology, which uses a nano-emulsion process that homogenizes oil into water, requires only small doses of CBD for users to feel the effects, as nutrients in this method are passed directly to the bloodstream through the small intestine. CBD Living’s other delivery system for better CBD absorption, proprietary skin retention nanotechnology, allows nutrients to penetrate the epidermis while retaining the benefits for skin. “We’ve seen upwards of 80 to 90% greater absorption compared to non-nano CBD products,” said Sean McDonald, CBD Living’s chief operating officer. McDonald joined the CBD Living team in 2015 following a meeting with Di Segna through consulting for the medical cannabis market. An in-house scientist works in tandem with renowned PhD scientists and university professors to formulate an array of products. These include gummy supplements to support a healthy immune system, lavender bath salts to ease the worried mind and tired body, and Eucalyptus-scented body lotion to nourish skin. The CBD Living Freeze product can be rolled onto skin post-workout to provide immediate relief for sore muscles, according to the company. “I love what cannabis can do,” noted McDonald. “We want to make it easy to integrate CBD Living with your life.” A Broad Lineup The company sources its CBD from hemp programs in Colorado and Oregon. CBD Living products are sold in over 500 stores across the U.S. including health food stores, chiropractor offices, smoke shops, and local dispensaries, in addition to the CBD Living website. Prospective consumers curious about CBD’s effects in their life can take a brief quiz on CBD Living’s website to help assess unique needs. These may include, for example, a better night’s rest, focus and energy, and relief from aches and pains. The brand will then populate a list of product recommendations. Overall, CBD Living offers a broad range of products, including instant coffee and teas, immune-boosting gummies, fruit-scented disposable vapes, topical creams, bath bombs, and more. The brand also offers CBD tinctures for pets. Ultimately, to offer optimum results, CBD Living products are formulated with unique delivery systems for better absorption of CBD and other vital nutrients, including omega fatty acids from hemp seed oil and MCT oil.
